Ashwaria loses her clothes for promotional event

Nobody, it seems, is safe from airline trouble - not even Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan whose luggage went missing at Chennai airport. The actress, who was in Chennai to attend a promotional event, discovered that only some of her belongings had made the journey South with her. As the red-faced airline scrambled to find her lost luggage, the Bachchan bahu remained calm and even kept her tongue firmly in cheek, offering to attend the event in her track suit.

Thankfully for Chennai, she did not have to do that as the glitch was smoothed over by the organisers who made sure that the star had designer outfits and shoes to match. The former Miss World looked stunning in her new clothes and the crowd loved her.

In true Bollywood style, there was a happy ending to the story. Apart from getting her stitches in time, Ash's lost luggage was eventually found and restored to its rightful owner.

Rani Mukherjee is happy to be journalist in film

Rani Mukherjee is coming back with a bang. After a slew of weepy roles, the actress steps into the shoes of a fiery, foul-mouthed crime reporter in No One Killed Jessica which is slated to release on January 7. The 32-year-old actress said that by playing the role of crime reporter she realized how difficult and risky is the job. “Through my character in the film I am sure people will respect and salute them for the kind of job they do. It is very fascinating profession where the basic job requirement is to be fearless and brave. I feel great that I am portraying the role of a crime reporter,” Rani is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Stressing on the risk faced by crime reporters, Rani added: “When we see crime reporters on TV we do not understand how difficult and risky their work is. I think in a day-to-day life, crime reporting is more risky as they are unaware of what assignment they would go for. They go to weird and dangerous places. Especially for girls it is tougher.”

The film, directed by Rajkumar Gupta, is based on the murder of model Jessica Lall in 1999 by Manu Sharma, son of a Haryana politician, in a Delhi night club. It has Vidya Balan playing Jessica's sister Sabrina, who fought the case to get justice and Rani plays a journalist in the movie.

“The very fact that I am playing a journalist in the film is also one of the reasons why I am part of it. It is the first time that media is shown in a powerful light in the movie,” Rani said.

Asin and Salman on a tree for 3 days

A simple scene turned into a nightmare for Salman Khan and Asin when the two had to hang from a tree for three days. It was meant to be a simple jungle sequence to be shot in Goregaon's Film City for Anees Bazmi's forthcoming film, Ready, but it turned out to be a nightmare for the lead pair, Salman Khan and Asin. The scene revolved around Asin being lost in a jungle, and scampering up a tree, with Khan following suit. Says a unit source, "Both Salman and the director were not sure if Asin could carry it off.

Climbing a high tree is not quite what you'd expect a heroine to do, especially since this was a massive tree with sprawling branches. One look at the size of the tree and the director decided to use a duplicate for Asin and Salman."

But Asin would hear none of it. "She insisted on doing the dangerous scene herself. Salman looked at her as if she was crazy. He finally said, 'Lady, you have balls of steel.' A harness was attached to her shoulders, and she was lowered on to the tree. Salman had no choice but to follow suit," says the source.

What was meant to be a simple shot, took three whole days to complete. "The unit had not anticipated disruptions and distractions from other film units that were shooting in the jungle. Suddenly there was a funeral procession that passed under the tree, and that had Salman and Asin crack up."

Many other distractions too brought the shooting to a grinding halt.

So exhausted were the two actors, that the shoot had to be cancelled. Asin's shoulders were numb because of the pressure from the harness.

"Salman and I were shooting on top of a tree for three days. Was it dangerous? I don't care! It is my childhood fantasy to climb a tree," laughed Asin.

That's a heavy price to pay to see your fantasy come true!

ShahRukh Khan says I am a very weird person

Shah Rukh Khan says he had gone into a depression mode but is now back and full of energy. The 45-year-old superstar also believes he is very poor at expressing his innermost feelings, be it love, anger or friendship. “I feel so much healthy and refreshed from within — due to the injury and the suffering I had got into a depression mode but now I am out of it. I feel happy and boosted with energy,” Shah Rukh said in an interview. The actor tore a ligament in his shoulder during shooting in 2008 and underwent surgery early last year.

When asked how he copes with the controversies and comparisons, Shah Rukh said he lacked in the art of expression, which is often misinterpreted by the masses.

“I am a different person in my films; I am very vocal and expressive in them, but in my personal life I am a very weird person. I face difficulty when I have to express my innermost feelings. I am very shy, quiet and reclusive as an individual.

“It is not something I am proud of but I lack in the art of expressing my love, my friendship, my anger, my apologies, which people misinterpret at times.

“I am always compared; that is a part of my life. A newcomer comes I am compared; anybody does a film which is a bigger hit, I am compared; anybody does a lesser film, still I am compared. So comparisons don’t bother me now.”

He is all set to make his small screen comeback with “Zor Ka Jhatka” on Imagine TV, for which he will begin shooting in the new year.

“I started my career from TV when I was nothing; it is a medium which is very close to my heart and now I feel excited to be back on it again.”

Shah Rukh made his acting debut in 1988 with the television series “Fauji”. After that he went on to appear in several other television serials, most notably in Aziz Mirza’s 1989 series “Circus”.

King Khan, who has hosted shows like “Kaun Banega Crorepati” (2007) and “Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?” (2008), says TV is his personal favourite.

“I have worked on all the different platforms, be it theatre, films, TV — but genuinely, TV is my favourite.” He, however, feels he lacks knowledge of the television industry. “On many occasions I find myself lacking as far as TV knowledge is concerned. I am not very well—versed with the working of the industry, the terms and terminology of it; so I try to stay away from it,” Shah Rukh said.

“When I stand among people from the TV industry, I feel awkward. I feel as if I don’t know what they are saying,” he said.

He has spent two successful decades in the film industry. Shah Rukh made his Bollywood debut with “Deewana” (1992) and since then has worked in films like “Baazigar”, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, “Devdas”, “Swades”, “Chak De! India” and “My Name Is Khan”.

And he says he is an original.

“I am the origin and original of what I do. I am the truth and lie of what I do. I am the goodness and the badness of what I do. Twenty years on, when you work the way I have with a lot of integrity and honesty, these kind of thoughts don’t come to me.

“It would be very odious and wrong for me to say that I could be ever compared in a pompous sense — it would be wrong for me to say I’m incomparable, but I think it is right to say that I don’t like to be compared at all.

“I am not the number one star for myself because I try harder every day; I have always believed that I haven’t done the best and could have done better. The day I stop doing that I will stop working.”

Asked about his current movie projects, he said, “I am working on quite a few projects as of now. I am in the mode to work round the clock with television and films. I am currently shooting for ‘Ra.One’, ‘Don—2’, and Vishal Bharadwaj’s film which is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Two States’”

So what is his selection criterion for scripts? “I try to keep myself on the other side when I sit to take a decision. I think about it with a third person perspective. I take up projects which I find appealing and grow my interest in them. ‘If I like it, others will also like it’ — this is how my mind works.”

Sara and Ali’s marriage in misfortune

The much-hyped marriage of television actress Sara Khan and Ali Merchant is over and the former’s mother says that they were never in favour of the relationship. “We never liked Ali and we were opposing their marriage. But today the time has changed. Parents have to follow children, the children don’t follow them,” Sara’s mother Seema Khan said. “We want this relationship to get over,” she added.

Both Sara and Ali are from Bhopal and they moved to Mumabi to pursue their acting career. Sara got fame with her role in Star Plus’s “Sapna Babul Ka - Bidaai”, while Ali came to the limelight with Imagine’s “Do Hanson Ka Joda”.

Both Sara and Ali tied the knot Nov 10 in “Bigg Boss” house, but within 43 days the reports came that the two are living separately in Mumbai. The reason for the rift is said to be Ali misusing the money Sara earned by participating in "Bigg Boss 4".

After staying in “Bigg Boss” house for weeks, Sara was evicted early this month.

Kidman brings her best in ‘Rabbit Hole

Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart and Miles Teller give a trifecta of rich, evocative performances that lift this emotionally challenging film above the fray. Mitchell’s deeply moving film version of the Pulitzer Prize and 2007 Tony award winning play is a jewel, which may well be trampled underfoot by the onslaught of awards seasons offerings vying for theatre space.

So far, Rabbit Hole’s garnered four Independent Spirit award nominations, a Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe nod for Kidman’s haunting performance as a mother grieving the accidental death of her son.

Eckhart saves his best work for the final act, but he takes it home, leaving us gutted by his character’s pain. Miles teller, a young actor who shares a tragic connection to Kidman’s Becca, is eerily dead on as her confidante and closest friend.

The film opens as Becca’s gardening. A neighbor comes over and walks on a newly planted seedling, which trips a dark switch in Becca. She has been living in isolation since her son was killed by a driver on the road in front of their house. Friends and neighbors try to lure her back into the world but it’s clear she’s made up her mind to live in a bubble where her son still lives.

Eckhart’s Howie tries valiantly to nudge her back to reality, but nothing works. He’s having his own problems adjusting, spending hours watching videos of his lost boy. Becca’s bitterness spills out at a grief counseling group session, where she challenges members who she sees as wallowing in their grief and storms out. And she has refused sex for eight months.

During her long days, Becca steals away and follows a high schooler in her car. She’s obsessed with the details of his life, and doesn’t look on her actions as strange, they just feel right. Eventually he calls her out and they agree to meet. He is the driver of the car that killed her son.

Mitchell shows a deft touch leading us through the explosive emotions of such a time in a mother’s life. Her pursuit of the highschooler is at first glance, shocking, as things that we don’t understand may look in real life. But Mitchell’s direction and Kidman and Teller’s tender and emotionally charged and yet subtle performances tell the real story.

The supporting actors – Diane Weist, Sandra Oh, and Giancarlo Esposito – have the guts to stand back, match the emotional fragility of the piece and yet bring their characters.

Working with a well-known film story – couple loses child and tries to deal – Rabbit Hole had a lot to overcome to make an impact.

It does the job by staying uniquely intimate, challenging our point of view and purposely taking its time.

The film is a revelation, Kidman had the chance to bring her best game and the audience wins.

Madhuri Dixit does Kathak to remain fit

Her last outing Aaja Nachle may have failed and she may be based in the US, but that's not stopping Bollywood's dancing diva Madhuri Dixit from being part of the evolving entertainment industry in India. Still flaunting flawless skin and an evergreen smile, she says she has no regrets over any film. The 43-year-old is back in business with what she is best at - dance. She is judging Sony TV's reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and says the failure of Aaja Nachle in 2007 didn't deject her one bit.

"I don't regret doing anything. When you work in a film, you do it thinking it will turn out well and will do well. But when it doesn't do well, there's nothing much you can do about it. So why should I regret anything?" said Madhuri, looking rosy cheeked in an orange and yellow sari.

A resident of Denver, Colorado, where she lives with her husband Sriram Nene and two sons - Arin, 7, and Raayan, 5 - she is out of touch with Bollywood but wants to be part of the changing face of Indian cinema by trying her hand at new genres.

"My choice of scripts will always be based on what appeals to me in a role. Of course, I will be looking for different kinds of roles. It's tough to say which role I have liked in recent times...but, yes, very different kinds of films are being made these days and it would be great to know what's out there for me," Madhuri said in an interview.

She is here for a few months to shoot the reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa which goes on air Dec 12, and plans to flip through scripts during her three-month stay in India, but can't stay here too long.

"This (Bollywood) is not the only life. I have another life (in the US) and I really love it. I do miss India and my friends here. So it's like having two homes. When I am here, I miss my husband and children. When I am there, I miss people here.

"I can't stay long. I send my kids to school, prepare breakfast, shop for vegetables, drop them and pick them from school and all those things. I can do one film and then go, one show and then go, but I can't take too much on me," she said.

Madhuri became a formidable name in the film industry with superhits like Tezaab, Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Dil, Saajan, Khalnayak, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dil To Pagal Hai and Devdas, and that too without a godfather.

Her dancing prowess, thanks to eight years of training in kathak, has wowed fans in songs like Ek do teen, Humko aajkal hai, Dhak dhak, Choli ke peechhe, Chane ke khet mein, Didi tera devar deewana, Mera piya ghar aaya, Que sera sera and Maar daala.

Even her sons appreciate her songs. "My elder son likes Ek do teen...he keeps singing it. They like songs from Devdas , Aaja Nachle. When I was coming for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, they were very excited and said - 'Are we going to watch you on TV?'. And I was like, 'Yes, you will.'"

Age has not touched her. She is fit as a fiddle and her grace, personality, smile and aura are as youthful as ever. With her kind of looks, no wonder most present day actresses don't cringe before saying, Main Madhuri Dixit banna chahti hoon.

Madhuri blushed and humbly said: "Well, compliments always make you feel good. It's not that I have come to this stage without doing anything. I have worked really hard to earn this recognition and when one works hard, it is nice to receive such compliments."

What keeps her in shape? "Well I do Kathak back home. But it depends how much time I have...sometimes I devote an hour, sometimes half an hour. And it does help. Not only is it a physical exercise, it is beneficial spiritually. I like it so much. It makes me feel good, and I also do yoga," she said

‘Avatar’ the most pirated film of 2010

"Avatar" is the most pirated film of the year, according to data released by a file-sharing blog. The biggest film in history was downloaded from torrent websites 16.6 million times, according to TorrentFreak. That represents a 33% increase in download activity from last year's top-pirated film, "Star Trek," which was downloaded just under 11 million times.

20th Century Fox, which distributed the sci-fi epic, isn't exactly crying. The film grossed nearly $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office to become the highest-grossing movie ever (before accounting for inflation).

Director James Cameron has frequently touted 3D filmmaking as the industry's best hope for combating piracy, but 3D glasses didn't hold back pirates from shattering all recorded piracy records. The financial performance of "Avatar's" home entertainment revenue isn't known yet, but the initial DVD release broke sales records.

Surprisingly, second on the list was "Kick-Ass," with 11.4 million downloads off torrent web sites. The kiddie superhero film underperformed at the worldwide box office with sales of about $96 million.

"Inception" followed with 9.7 million downloads, "Shutter Island" with 9.5 million, and "Iron Man 2" with 8.8 million.

Tees maar khan is remake of an Italian comedy film

The similarities are startling! Tees Maar Khan (TMK), Farah Khan’s latest film starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif is a remake of an Italian comedy film starring Peter Sellers. In director Vittorio De Sica’s 1966 comedy film After The Fox, Peter Sellers plays the clever con man called Fox. He has three bumbling sidekicks and plans to smuggle looted gold into Europe by pretending as a film director.

In Tees Maar Khan, Akshay too plays a clever connie called Tees Maar Khan. He has three subordinates, all goofballs. Akshay also pretends to be the director of a film to rob a train.

The similarities are truly astounding. We hear that Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder have made a lot of changes in the script to Indianize the plot. But the fact remains that TMK is a remake of After the Fox and Farah Khan too has admitted it.

She says the plot of TMK is the same as that of ‘After the Fox’ but there are many changes as well.

Toonpur Ka Superrhero : Movie Review

Aditya (Ajay Devgan), an action star, bashes up a dozen baddies and pulls off the scariest of stunts with the fly-swatting ease on screen, but in real life, he’s anything but a hero for his kids. They know that their dad gets the credit for what the stuntmen do. In reality, the superstar Aditya is an ordinary soul, who can’t even bowl.

Aditya itches to be a hero for his kids. Opportunity knocks when he’s kidnapped by a bunch of cartoons from Toonpur. The animated characters called Devtoons adore Aditya’s onscreen bravado and want him to fight their enemies Toonasurs, led by the devilish Jagaro. To their dismay, the action star Aditya turns out to be a wimp.

Meanwhile, Aditya spots the chance to be a hero in the eyes of his kids, so he takes the battle to the evil Toonasurs, literally pummelling them in a Gladiator like duel until he comes face-to-face with Jagaro.

Obvious question - Is the film entertaining enough? Well, yes if you happen to be a preteen who just clambered up the chair to read this review. No, if you are a grown-up teen hooked to watching superheroes in their undies.

Directed by Kireet Khurana, Toonpur Ka Superrhero is strictly a kids’ film, conceptualized and crafted particularly to tickle the giggly ha-ha, he-he types. To a soberer mind, the animated characters are clichéd cardboard cutouts. Like there’s this obese, Gujarati spouting aunty Big Ben, or the provocatively dressed, busty and far from size-zero Loveena, or the Marathi hawaldar Pandu, or the Bollywood loving sardar boy Bolly, or the plump, bling-laden musician Guppy, or the computer geek Lappy, or the sagacious Gyandev.

A few sequences will have the kids in splits, like the one where Devgn dresses up as a cowboy and rides an ostrich. The screenplay is twisted to convenience in the closing reels, to include the hero’s entire family in the final combat. But more than its plot, what makes Toonpur Ka Superrhero work is the quality animation work that it boasts of.

Ajay Devgan doesn’t really bring the house down with his comedy but is quite good as the reel hero trying to be one in real - rather cartoon - world. Kajol, playing his wife, gets a brief role, and the two kids are just about watchable.

In short, Toonpur Ka Superrhero is a Christmas candy for kids. Watch it if you are a kid, or an adult with kids.

Director: Kireet Khurana

Writers: Raagi Bhatnagar (story), Bhimsain

Stars: Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Sanjay Mishra, Tanuja, Mukesh Tiwari
