The suspense is out. B-town lovely Katrina will share the screen opposite Aamir in ‘Dhoom 3’. The London beauty in her Bollywood duty has been roped in to play the lead in the YRF successful franchise since 2004 where its second edition in 2006 starring the most beautiful Aishwarya and B-town’s most handsome Hrithik created history by giving Bollywood’s best opening of the year. Its third series too promised a casting coup and now it’s out, Kats will be paired with Aamir in the film which is slated for a December 2012 release.

Exclusively shot in overseas, the movie promises to be bigger and better. Helmed by the ‘Tashan’ fame Vijay Krishna Acharya, the third installment of ‘Dhoom’ retains Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra.

Movie preview Dhobi ghat

Describing the great high that she felt while sitting amongst the audience, Monica remembers, "It was just so amazing. I could finally cut myself from the movie as someone who was a part of it and instead wore the hat of audience."

She adds, "During the making of the film I was very critical of my performance but as a viewer, I finally got a chance to enjoy the film for what it was. It was such a joyful experience and the icing on the cake was the great reviews. Honestly, even we were pleasantly surprised with the unanimity in appreciation that the film was garnering."

Well, let's see how the film performs commercially, now that it would be making a shift from film festivals to a far more mainstream outing.

Kiran Rao film Dhobi Ghat is a tribute to Mumbai

Kolkata girl Kiran Rao, who moved here after finishing her masters in mass communication from Delhi's Jamia and found both love and a career, says her directorial debut Dhobi Ghat is her personal tribute to the city of dreams. "Actually, I wanted to make something on Mumbai. It's about the city and how it makes its way into people's lives. It's a personal tribute to my city," Kiran, whose husband is actor Aamir Khan, said in an interview.

"It's a story of Mumbai that might have remained untold to you. It's as real and authentic as I could make it. Films on Mumbai have always dealt with any one aspect of it at a time. I have tried to show all the facets of the city," she added.

Asked why she preferred to debut with such a World Cinema kind of script, she said: "When I started to write the film, I didn't think of the genre or what type of film it will be. I had an idea of story of four people from very different classes and worlds.

"I didn't plan to write particularly this story. The idea in due course developed into this film. But the city of Mumbai has always been the constant inspiration behind this film."

Set in Mumbai, one of the biggest melting pots of the country, where people from every part of India come to try their luck, Dhobi Ghat tries to portray the city in its true colours through four people who come from very different backgrounds. When their worlds intersect, this leaves them forever altered.

Monica Dogra (Shai) plays an Indian-American banker who is in the city for a photographic expedition, Prateek Babbar (Munna) is a washerboy and Kriti Malhotra essays Yasmin, while Aamir Khan, who is also producing the film, will be seen as a seclusive modern art painter.

The first time director strictly didn't want Aamir to act in the film, but she couldn't think of anyone else once he auditioned for the role.

"I wanted all my characters to be non-actors to make the film more authentic. I was planning not to cast Aamir because he is such a big star and I had to shoot in some of the busiest streets of Mumbai. But when he was auditioned, I couldn't think of anyone beyond him for the character," said Kiran.

Asked whom among the four characters she identifies the most with, she said: "I have shared my experience with all the characters, but if you ask me whom I identify the most, it's the character of Yasmin. She is the one who comes to Mumbai and experiences the city from a small town perspective."

Kiran is very fond of the Argentinian composer Gustavo Santaolalla and says her husband helped her in having him on board to essay the music for Dhobi Ghat, scheduled to hit theatres Jan 21.

"Aamir asked me whose name first came to my mind for giving the music to the film. I promptly said Gustavo. He said he would try getting him to give music in the film. He arranged Gustavo's number. We spoke to him. He said he wanted to see the film and if he liked it, he will surely associate with the film. He was shown the film. He came down to India, met Indian classical musicians and composed the music for the film," she said.

Santaolalla is a Golden Globe award winner for scoring music for Brokeback Mountain, Babel and The Motorcycle Diaries. He is also the recipient of Academy Awards in 2005 for Best Original Score in Brokeback Mountain and Babel respectively. His music has also fetched him the Grammy and BAFTA awards.

Biggest controversies of 2010

As 2010 draws its final breath, we take a look at the year's biggest headliners and the children of controversy. 2010 was the year when squabbles, fights, temper tantrums and whims came tumbling out of the closet. Stars were not afraid to speak their mind, specially on chat shows. Some forever-couples like Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone broke up while other couple like Deepika and Siddharth Mallya came together unexpectedly.

Javed Akhtar fought with producers for royalty rights for lyricists. A television couple got married on a reality show; Rakhi Sawant made news (again!) when she apparently incited a man to commit suicide on a reality show.

Bigg Boss became the barometer of showbiz etiquette. The louder you abused the more you were bound to be noticed. Here are looking at the most colourful controversies of the year.

The 3 Idiots Chetan Bhagat, Aamir Khan And Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Chetan Bhagat is the largest-selling novelist of India. But can he get away with accusing an Aamir project of robbing him of credit? No way! The minute Chetan complained about improper credit, the 3 Idiots team jumped on him threatening to reduce the litterateur to pulp. Mercifully, Kareena Kapoor stayed out of the fracas. She had not read the book and knowing her attention span, probably not seen the movie either.

The Aamir Khan-Anusha Rizvi Fallout

This isn't the first time that producer Aamir Khan has had differences with his director. Interestingly, Anusha Rizvi's debut film Peepli [Live] became a success only after AK's rigorous marketing.

The duo's differences bubbled out in the open when the defiant Anusha declared she wouldn't attend the Oscars where Peepli [Live] has been sent. This could mean one of two things. Either Anusha knows that her film didn't stand a chance in hell of actually winning the Oscar. Or she just doesn't know what to wear to the ceremony.

Watch out for Peepli [Live] Part 2. It's a road movie about a firebrand filmmaker and an authoritarian producer who decide to visit a distant uncle named Oscar.

Ranbir-Deepika Part Ways

Tum na jaane KISS jahan mein kho gaye? This could be the theme of the Deepika-Ranbir romance. Apparently tired of his infidelities, Deepika gave Ranbir the boot and even gave an interview about how her man was cheating on her.

When all hell broke loose, Deepika hastily retracted saying she didn't mean Ranbir. But the damage was done. Now all his heroines demand a fidelity contract with him before getting into a relationship.

Barbara Mori & Hrithik Roshan Are 'Just Friends'?

For most of the year, we couldn't hear the end of the 'Mori Naam Karega Roshan' saga. In Chapter 2 of the passion-play, Hrithik and wife Sussanne moved out of his father's home into a hotel. Duggu said their bedroom had been attacked by termites.

Is that what they call infidelity these days in showbiz? There were reports that the twosome's fearsome friendship was just publicity for Kites. If it was really so, then it really didn't help the film much. Till the end, he maintained they were, you guessed it, just good friends. Dost beat it.

Shah Rukh Takes On The Shiv Sena

When Shah Rukh Khan opined that Pakistani players should not be left out of the IPL, the Shiv Sena decided SRK's My Name Is Khan should be left out of theatres. Finally, of course, the IPL itself got left out. But that's another story.

Farah-SRK Kabhi Alvida Nahin Kahenge

Why do we get the feeling that Shah Rukh and Farah will be back together? It's karmic, I guess! In 2010, the two inseparable friends went their separate ways. Farah directed Tees Maar Khan with Akshay Kumar.

Maybe it should should've been named 'Tees Maar Kumar'. With her bid to create box-office history with a Kumar coming a cropper, SRK's dimples are bound to get more pronounced. Main Hoon Naa, Farah.

Nana Patekar-Prakash Jha Slug It Out

They quarrelled. They made up. They won't ever speak to one another. They've let bygones be bygones ¦.aaaah, please! We just wanted these two overgrown boys to act their age.

The quarrel that happened between the director and actor during the making of Raajneeti threatened to blow up into a major conflict. Last heard, it had all been settled amicably. Nana will be directing a film for Prakash Jha. Hopefully, it won't be an Indianised take on Grumpy Old Men.

Anil Kapoor On A Mission Impossible

Is Anil Kapoor really doing the fourth part of Mission Impossible? Is it true that Tom Cruise has decided to read the script again just to make sure his Indian co-star doesn't walk away with all the applause?

Meanwhile, rumours persist that Danny Boyle has decided to make a sequel to Slumdog Millionaire called Slum-Hog Millionaire with Kapoor Saab in the main role.

Dream Girl's Nightmare Move

Hema Malini is known to call a spade a spade. Toward the tail-end of her daughter Esha's relaunch film Tell Me Oh Khuda, she sacked director Mayur Puri and took over the project herself. Puri fumed. Hema couldn't care less. Esha laughed all the way to the next shot.

Hasta Hua 'Noorani' Chehra

Certainly not the favourite song in the Dutt household after producer Shakeel Noorani got a court order attaching Sanju Baba's property as compensation for a film that Dutt did not do. Accusations of underworld links, threats of extortion and deception flew fast and furiously. Certainly more exciting than most of the films during the year.

Aamir Khan Shah Rukh Khan battle goes on

Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan are two of the most popular Khans who are loved and adored by thousands of fans. However, as they say there cannot be two rulers in one kingdom, so the fight for the ultimate title has always been quite an issue with these two stars as they have always managed to topple each other at some point of time or the other.

There are those who believe that SRK is the ultimate B Town hero, others think that it is perfectionist Aamir Khan who is the be all and end all of Bollywood, but the war still wages on. To talk about B-Town releases, both are at an equal platform, as both stars have hits and super hits that are proof enough to show that each one has his own standing in the world of stardom.

However, there is a slight twist in this competition now. Reports are that both the stars are to do projects with International directors that too, both will be working on projects that deal with the basic storyline of the city of Mumbai.

Shah Rukh Khan is to do a project with Danny Boyle, who is scheduled to adapt Suketu Mehta’s ‘Maximum City’, a novel which is very popular. Aamir Khan with director Paul Schrader is to adapt ‘Ex-Treme City’ for producer Anubhav Sinha, which will be based in Dharavi, a slum area of Mumbai.movies like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and the just to be released ‘Dhobi Ghat’ which are both based on the city of Mumbai, albeit with different angles, it is somewhat being expected that a lot is still to be explored about this city, and hopefully Shah Rukh’s and Aamir’s International projects on Mumbai will do the needful.

Obviously...
3 Idiots is the biggest hit in the history of Hindi cinema. Naturally, every actress in the country would want to work with the Ghajini actor.

Every B-Town belle has sent him feelers and expressed the desire to woo him on the big screen. But according to our source, Kareena Kapoor has bagged the romantic lead opposite Aamir Khan.

Deepika Padukone was a strong contender for the leading lady part. Reveals an insider, "It's a two-heroine film. Aamir was keen to repeat his 3 Idiots leading lady.

“Meanwhile, Riteish and Farhan wanted Deepika as they've worked with her before in Karthik Calling Karthik and found her to be a thorough professional and sincere in her attitude towards work. However, they all decided to go with Bebo. What worked in her favour is their last big hit together and the fact that AK believes she fits into any character comfortably."

In contention
The insider swears that talks are on with Katrina Kaif to play the second female lead. The yet-to-be titled suspense drama is being directed by Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd director Reema Kagti. The film will go on floors on February 2011.

Kareena Kapoor and her bollywood Khans

SHAH RUKH: ‘Raj or SRK, he’s every woman’s dream’ He’s been the Badshah of Bollywood for years. And is as lovable and energetic off screen, as he is on it. After Asoka, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham and Billu, in which I made a special appearance in a song, we’re now working on Ra.One. It’s exciting being a part of a fantasy adventure in the superhero genre and from what I’ve seen Shah Rukh will pull it off.

There’s been talk that since Robot’s release, some of the super effects are being redone or upgraded. That’s non-sense! RA.One is going to introduce you to SFX that you have never seen before.

Shah Rukh and Arjun (Rampal) have their superhero costumes. For once, I’m glad they are not a part of my wardrobe, and for a change, the weight loss controversy is dogging my co-stars rather than me. For me, the biggest high as far as this film goes, is Akon’s song. That will be my memento!

SALMAN: ‘He’ll make me the envy of all women’

Salman is our Rajnikant, from Maine Pyaar Kiya to Dabangg, he’s been amazing! His expressive eyes have won the hearts of trillions and I’m one of them.

I’ve worshipped him since I was a star-gazer on the sets of Jagruti. In that film, he was paired with my sister and they continue to share a great bond. Salman is protective of Karisma, actually he’s protective of me too, probably because he’s known me since I was really young.

Our first film together was Main Aurr Mrs Khanna last Diwali. Now I’m getting ready for the hottest bodyguard, one that would make me the envy of all the women. The film has a great role for me too, and that should also make me the envy of other Bollywood actors.

Baby (Salman’s sister Alvira who is producing the film) really wanted me for the role not just because I looked the part but because she believed I could carry it off. It’s great to get a vote of confidence for your talent and I think Bodyguard will be the perfect film for Salman and me.

AAMIR: ‘He’s the God of everything to do with our movies’

I love Aamir Khan. What a genius! He’s the God of everything to do with movies. Saif rags me saying once we’re on the subject of Aamir it’s going to be a three-hour conversation.

What to do, I respect him immensely. He’s right up there as far as performances go. I’ve been waiting to work with him forever. I got a chance when Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) cast us in 3 Idiots. Now I’m hoping for a repeat.

IMRAN: ‘Saif says we make a great pair’

I haven’t seen much of Imran’s work. I liked him in Jaane Tu.. Ya Jaane Na. He made me laugh and that’s a tough job. He’s growing fast with every film and is one of the dark horses who should go far. He looks stunningly beautiful on screen!

I don’t know him too well. We haven’t started shooting for Short Term Shaadi yet. But Saif, after watching him in I Hate Luv Storys, feels that he’s bright and talented. And that he and I make a great pair. I trust Saif’s judgement!

SAIF: ‘He’s worked on his own terms’

What sets Saif apart from a number of other actors is his belief in himself and the movies he makes. That’s why he’s taken so many risks in his career. Right from Parampara to Love Aaj Kal, Qurbaan and now Agent Vinod, Saif has worked on his own terms.

He’s a great actor and I’m not just saying that because of our personal relationship. He’s versatile and intelligent, a great combination of beauty and brains. He’ll always be a leader, given the way he thinks. He makes me so proud!

For the last one year he’s been completely focused on Agent Vinod. He’s been obsessed with the genre since he was a kid. And I think he’s the right guy to make a film along the lines of a Bond or a Bourne Identity.

He’s cultured, has had a wonderful education and upbringing, and despite being a Bollywood actor, he’s kinda international.

Kareena Kapoor to choose one between Karan Johar & Aamir Khan

The lady is big in demand! She is already on board for Karan’s next Short Term Shaadi, and is also wanted for Aamir’s next film to be produced by Farhan Akhtar. Both the films will start from February 2011 and Kareena can’t decide which movie to select and which to dump. Obviously, she wants to work in both.

It’s learnt that Bebo has already committed dates that Aamir Khan’s film needs to Karan’s Short Term Shaadi, opposite Imran Khan. In fact, she was finalized for STS before Aamir’s film was offered to her. But then, saying no to Aamir’s film can be a big loss for her and a good gain for any of her contemporaries. According to sources, Aamir has also in his mind Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif for the film.

On the other hand, KJo can’t delay his film, he has made adjustments for Imran - who is getting married on January 11 - for Short Term Shaadi, and any further delay can create problems for the whole production team.

First Look - Aamir Khan & Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghat

The film’s first look is out and it takes a few moments to understand the poster. After some pondering, it becomes clear that the movie’s poster has Mumbai’s map painted in blue showing all the other characters of the film. In the movie, amchi Mumbai also plays a character. Directed by Kiran Rao, the film is a moving tale about four individuals.

The story is entwined with interpersonal relationships. Aamir plays the role of a painter who owns a small studio in Mumbai and Prateik Babbar is a dhobi. Monica Dogra is the woman who shares affection for both the male characters. The movie is centered on Mumbai’s famous Dhobi Ghat, the livelihood of traditional washer-men of the city. The music score of the film is given by Oscar-winning Argentinean composer Gustavo Santaolalla.

Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ is not an entertainer

The aam janta waits for an Aamir Khan film with bated breath - that Aamir, the star, knows. But he fears that his next film Dhobi Ghat won’t appeal to the audience.

Though Dhobi Ghat was well received at the Toronto International Film festival where it was screened for the first time, Aamir has his reservations about the film, which is sensitive in its approach. Aamir is quoted as saying, “I fear that the masses may not like it because it is a very fine and delicate film.”

According to Aamir, the film is for the people who understand films and are sensitive. The producer clearly admitted that it’s not a hard-core commercial film which will appeal to masses. Directed by Kiran Rao, his wife, the film is about four individuals whose lives are intertwined.

Yet, Aamir believes that Dhobi Ghaat is the best from his production house.
